Grilled cheese from here

GRILLED CHEESE D'ICI

Portions : 4 - Preparation : 10 minutes - Cooking : 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 white onions, thinly sliced
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 45 ml (3 tbsp.) maple syrup
  • 60 ml (4 tbsp.) water
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp.) hot mustard
  • 8 slices household white bread
  • 4 slices mozzarella
  • 4 slices white ham
  • 2 Québec apples (e.g. Honeycrisps), thinly sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 4 slices Tome du Québec or other semi-soft cheese
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp.) butter, unsalted and soft
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. In a hot skillet, sauté the onions in a little oil over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic, maple syrup and water and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Adjust the seasoning, add the mustard and set aside off the heat.
  4. Lay out 4 slices of bread on a work surface. On each slice, place 1 slice of mozzarella, then 1 slice of ham, then spread the onion compote.
  5. Top with slices of apple, avocado and cheese.
  6. Close the sandwiches with the remaining slices of bread.
  7. Butter the bread slices on the outside.
  8. Place the sandwiches in a hot frying pan over medium heat and toast on each side for around 4 to 5 minutes.
