Strawberry Croissant Casserole (French Toast Style)

Casserole de croissants aux fraises (style pain doré)

Ingredients

  • 6 croissants
  • 500 ml (2 cups) strawberries, chopped
  • 250 ml (1 cup) cream cheese
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) sugar
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) vanilla extract
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) ground cinnamon
  • 1 lemon (zest)
  • 4 eggs
  • 375 ml (1 1/2 cups) milk
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) melted butter
  • 1 pinch of salt


Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). In a large bowl, combine the eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, lemon zest, sugar, milk, and salt.
  2. Cut the croissants into large cubes and add them to the mixture, coating them well.
  3. Add the strawberries and mix gently.
  4. Pour the mixture into an oven-safe baking dish and dot the mixture with dollops of cream cheese.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and continue baking for 15 minutes to brown the top nicely.
  6. Serve as is or top with strawberry jam and whipped cream for an even more indulgent treat.
