Ingredients

  • 1 large cauliflower, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 125 ml (½ cup) all-purpose flour
  • 125 ml (½ cup) milk
  • 5 ml (1 teaspoon) garlic powder
  • 2.5 ml (½ teaspoon) salt
  • 250 ml (1 cup) panko breadcrumbs
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) olive oil
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) JG Smoked Honey spice blend
  • 45 ml (3 tablespoons) honey
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) BBQ sauce
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) soy sauce
  • 10 ml (2 teaspoons) apple cider vinegar
  • 5 ml (1 teaspoon) hot sauce, or to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 220 °C (425 °F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, milk, garlic powder, and salt until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Add the cauliflower bites and toss to coat them thoroughly. Gently shake off any excess batter.
  4. In another bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the olive oil and the Smoked Honey spice blend.
  5. Coat the cauliflower pieces with the breadcrumb mixture, then arrange them on the baking sheet without overlapping.
  6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, turning the bites halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Meanwhile, combine the honey, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, just long enough to create a smooth, slightly syrupy sauce.
  8. Once removed from the oven, transfer the cauliflower to a large bowl. Add just enough sauce to coat the bites thoroughly without soaking through the breading.
  9. Return to the oven for 3 to 5 minutes, until the sauce is lightly caramelized. Serve immediately, with the remaining sauce on the side if desired.
