Cook time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 675 g (1 ½ lb) lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 125 ml (½ cup) panko breadcrumbs
  • 60 ml (¼ cup) milk
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) JG South American Spice Blend
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) Worcestershire sauce
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) tomato paste
  • 125 ml (½ cup) tomato sauce
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) brown sugar
  • 10 ml (2 teaspoons) lime juice
  • Salt, to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, South American spice blend, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Season lightly with salt.
  3. Mix just enough to combine the ingredients, without overworking the meat, to ensure the meatloaf remains tender.
  4. Place the mixture on the baking sheet and shape it into a loaf about 20 cm (8 in.) long.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Spread the sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the center reaches an internal temperature of 71°C (160°F).
  7. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, or grilled vegetables.
