Ingredients
- 675 g (1 ½ lb) lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 125 ml (½ cup) panko breadcrumbs
- 60 ml (¼ cup) milk
- 30 ml (2 tablespoons) JG South American Spice Blend
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) Worcestershire sauce
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) tomato paste
- 125 ml (½ cup) tomato sauce
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) brown sugar
- 10 ml (2 teaspoons) lime juice
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, South American spice blend, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Season lightly with salt.
- Mix just enough to combine the ingredients, without overworking the meat, to ensure the meatloaf remains tender.
- Place the mixture on the baking sheet and shape it into a loaf about 20 cm (8 in.) long.
- In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Spread the sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the center reaches an internal temperature of 71°C (160°F).
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, or grilled vegetables.
